Excerpt
Introduction: The National Transportation Safety Board?s 2000 Annual Review of Aircraft Accident Data for U.S. General Aviation is a statistical compilation and review of general aviation accidents that occurred in 2000 involving U.S.-registered aircraft. As a summary of all U.S. general aviation accidents for 2000, the review is designed to inform general aviation pilots and their passengers and to provide detailed information to support future government, industry, and private research efforts and safety improvement initiatives. The Safety Board drew on several resources in compiling data for this review. Accident data, for example, were extracted from the Safety Board?s Aviation Accident/Incident Database. Activity data were extracted from the General Aviation and Air Taxi Activity Survey (GAATA Survey)3 and from U.S. Civil Airmen Statistics, both of which are published by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Statistics and Forecast Branch, Planning and Analysis Division, Office of Aviation Policy and Plans. Additional information was extracted from the General Aviation Statistical Databook, published by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA).
